Most of us live in a world represented by the things we can see, taste, smell, hear, and touch. We also recognize that there is a reality that TRANSCENDS our physical world. Jesus came to help us enter that Transcendent Kingdom.  Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray. He responded by giving them a concise example (pattern) for their connection with God. His response has been called: “The Lord’s Prayer.” We may have memorized the words, but many people have never fully unpacked their meaning. The Teach Us To Pray curriculum is a comprehensive attempt to do just that.

Transcendent Kingdom is the first of three books in this 35-lesson curriculum. It is focused on the words: “Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your Name.” Those words are simple enough to remember, but their meaning is profound. In the twelve lessons in the Transcendent Kingdom manuals young people are encouraged to reflect on the nature of the God to whom we pray. He is a loving Father… i.e. His very nature is to be a loving and just Father…-i.e. everything he does is fair and right. He our Father who is in heaven…i.e. the great I AM who created the heavens and the earth. The implications of that are significant. He is holy…i.e. His Name must be revered. There is power found in the name of Jesus, but it cannot be abused.  What does it mean to pray in Jesus’ name and what are the limits of praying in Jesus’ name?

There is only one way to come to “Our Father,” and that would be “in Spirit and in Truth.” We have been directed to pray in the Spirit, but how many can clearly say that they know what that means? What are some of the false concepts that arise when people talk about praying in the Spirit? Many have fallen prey to those who would mislead them in their attempts to connect with God. How can we know that we have found the truth?

Let’s discover these things by seeking the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Our transcendent God has promised to reveal Himself and His Kingdom if we pursue Him with diligence.
